LISBON - Columbiana County commissioners are increasing efforts to ensure the county is among those seeking federal stimulus money for the expansion of high-speed Internet service. Commissioners this week adopted a resolution in support of the efforts of Broadband for America, which describes itself is as a coalition of telecom companies, Internet providers and consumer advocacy groups pushing for the expansion of high-speed Internet, or broadband, service.

Commissioners are working closely with Connect Ohio, a nonprofit group hired by the state to work with each county and local Internet providers to develop a plan to expand broadband access across the state. Connect Ohio unsuccessfully sought federal stimulus money for Ohio last year and intends to apply for some of the $7.2 billion in stimulus money being made available in 2010 for expansion of broadband...
