Higher-speed Internet service will be available in the Benton Ridge area within two years, thanks to $3.1 million in federal grants and loans.
The money will finance extension of fiber optic cable to all 480 homes and the few businesses in the Benton Ridge exchange, Benton Ridge Telephone Co. Chief Executive Officer Ken Williams said.
High-speed Internet has become a necessity for many. Job seekers need it because most large companies and government agencies require people to apply online, said Dave Sweet, spokesman for Connect Ohio, a nonprofit group hired by the state to make high-speed Internet available to more people.
