Government awards $1.2 billion in broadband access grants

On Wednesday, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced the funding of 126 new broadband infrastructure projects for $1.2 billion across 38 states and Native American tribal areas as a part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act otherwise known as the stimulus package. Five of those projects are in Ohio but unlike one of the 66 programs funded in early July of this year, known of them will touch Van Wert County residents.

The five projects in Ohio touch different parts of the state for a total of just below $14.6 million. In Pike County, $1.4 million was awarded to deliver broadband and Voice Over Internet Protocol services to the county.
